With all of the fun foods available to children during summer, finding food that doesn’t take a toll on your child’s braces can be difficult. After all, the list of things that patients who are undergoing orthodontic treatment goes on and on. Patients with braces are encouraged to avoid foods that are too sticky, too crunchy, too hard, too sugary, etc. To lessen the burden, we wanted to share a few fun recipes that are not only safe to eat with your braces, but are good for your overall health.
Greek Yogurt
Greek Yogurt is very high in protein and is very flavorful. Make a delicious parfait in the morning time before heading out to the pool.
Ingredients: Greek Yogurt, bananas or a fruit of your choice, honey
Directions: In a small bowl, dish out about one cup’s worth of Greek yogurt and top it with your choice of chopped fruit. Drizzle a little bit of honey on top and mix everything together. You will be rewarded with a tasty & satisfying dessert!
Popsicles
Popsicles are always a summer time favorite but are often loaded with unnecessary additives, preservatives, and sugar. By making popsicles at home, you can limit the amount of sugars and pack in the rich nutrients. We promise you, you will love them just as much!
Ingredients: Hand full of strawberries, ripe banana, or your favorite fruits, ½ cup of low fat milk, ½ cup of vanilla yogurt
Directions: add all ingredients to blender and blend until smooth. Add the mixture to a popsicle mold and freeze for 3-6 hours. Once frozen, take out your popsicles and enjoy!
